Desktop Virtualization solution provider NComputing recently
announced it has won a contract with the Employee State Insurance
Corporation (ESIC) for a countrywide deployment of its virtual
desktop solution across ESIC’s offices and clinics. According
to the contract, NComputing along with Wipro, will deploy 31,000
thin-client workstations running its vSpace virtualization
software, across all ESIC offices and clinics.
ESIC is an Indian Government Chartered insurance and healthcare
organization that delivers social security benefits to employed
individuals and their families by providing health insurance and
medical facilities through over 2,200 facilities across India. The
organization opted for desktop virtualization as a part of its
e-governance initiative named 'Project Panchdeep’, which is
aimed at streamlining the insurance and healthcare services that
ESIC provides to employers, employees, and state and central
government workers.
“We are honored that NComputing has been selected for this
strategic initiative as it will vastly improve healthcare for the
12 million beneficiaries by speeding insurance and medical
services,” said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of
NComputing.
The solution includes NComputing’s desktop virtualization
software, vSpace that is designed to create “virtual”
sessions on a PC or a server, and thin-client devices that connect
the user’s monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the shared
computer. For the project, ESIC has chosen to deploy
NComputing’s L130 virtual desktops. Over 31,000 of these
virtual desktops will connect to Wipro desktop PCs, which will then
connect to a cloud computing environment at ESIC’s data
centers.
NComputing claims that the thin clients are one of the most energy
efficient desktop computing solutions available with an electricity
consumption of only 5 watts.
