Telecom and Insurance sectors drive growth for Oracle in India
A focus on automating business processes and introducing new value added services is driving growth for Oracle in the telecom and insurance sectors By Srikanth RP, InformationWeek, March 04, 2010
With the Indian telecom sector on an upswing and a host of new operators entering the fray, Oracle is finding significant growth for its integrated portfolio of solutions. Following its acquisition of BEA, Oracle has significantly enhanced its product portfolio for targeting the lucrative telecom segment.

This was seen recently when Aircel, a relatively new player in the Indian telecom sector, announced that it had partnered with Oracle to deploy Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper and Oracle Fusion Middleware to provide a scalable and personalized content delivery platform for new revenue generation. These solutions will help Aircel offer a personalized multi-channel content portal where customers can access a large catalog of value added services such as music, pictures, videos, games, news and regional services.

"The Indian telecom sector is in a CAPEX mode, and will continue to see huge investments as telecom operators – existing and new – look to quickly offer value added services from a single platform”

- Dhruv Singhal, Senior Director, Fusion Middleware Sales Consulting, Oracle India

“The Indian telecom sector is in a CAPEX mode, and will continue to
see huge investments as telecom operators – existing and new – look to
quickly offer value added services from a single platform,” says Dhruv
Singhal, Senior Director, Fusion Middleware Sales Consulting, Oracle
India.

Singhal says that with the intense competition in the telecom space,
telecom operators need the flexibility to quickly launch new products,
where integration between diverse functions is crucial. This is fueling
demand for Oracle Fusion Middleware, a portfolio of integrated
solutions that includes portals, BPM tools, developer tools and
business intelligence.

Using a combination of different solutions, telecom operators can generate incremental revenue by offering users personalized content based on their home's location or circle, their demographic profile, their handset type, or by an analysis of their usage history.

While BI technologies will provide the intelligence, BPM tools provide telecom operators the flexibility and the agility to quickly change workflows in line with dynamic market needs.
