Interop played key role in standardizing TCP/IP
A glimpse into the history of Interop InformationWeek News Network, September 03, 2010
How did Interop begin and what is Interop all about? Well, did you know that many of the internetworking protocols were planned and standardized at Interop?

The Internet Activities Board (IAB) and DARPA held a TCP/IP vendors workshop in August 1986. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together the designers of the TCP/IP protocol suite with the implementors of those protocols in the commercial marketplace. In doing so they would review the current protocols and plan future extensions. The workshop was attended by experts from the research community who discussed the current status of ARPANET and DDN's MILNET, future directions of research, gateway issues, and migration to ISO standards.

TCP/IP Interoperability Conferences were held in 1987 and 1988 too. By 1989 this came to be known simply as the Interop Conference, and it was held in San Jose for the next three years. In the following years Interop was held in other US cities and in 1994 it came to be known as Networld+Interop. Then the conference was held in Berlin, Tokyo, Paris, London, Sydney, Brisbane, Athens, Singapore, Sao Paulo and Frankfurt (apart from its occurrence in various US states).

Interop has become the meeting place for the global business technology community; it is now conducted every year in Las Vegas, New York, Tokyo and Mumbai (introduced in October 2009).

Interop hosts a large technology expo with major technology IT vendors showing their latest offerings. It is also supported by standards organizations such as MAIT, SNIA, Wi-Fi Alliance, CSI, ISODA, ISPAI, OSPAI and the EC-Council. In addition, there is a conference with four tracks on all three days. The conference begins with keynotes each day and there are plenary sessions such as power panels too. In addition there are theme based sessions covering topics such as cloud computing/SaaS, data center, virtualization, open source, efficient enterprise, green IT, business intelligence, enterprise 2.0, mobility, security, collaboration, and technology in healthcare.

So go ahead and choose whatever you want to relish at Interop. Also catch the very latest in business technology in the Expo area.

Interop-Mumbai will be held at the Bombay Exhibition Center between September 28 – 30, 2010. To confirm your participation at Interop log on to www.interop.in
