IBM to help AFL capture global supply chain opportunities
Third-party logistics player, AFL has chosen IBM’s iLOG supply chain solution to identify cost saving and service improvement opportunities in global supply chains InformationWeek News Network, May 25, 2010
As part of a new initiative, AFL wanted to offer its clients modeling services like strategic supply chain network design and inventory optimization, to supplement its warehousing and transportation management services.

To help the firm achieve its objective, AFL has chosen IBM’s iLOG supply chain solution. The solution involves IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus XE for network design and IBM ILOG Inventory Analyst for inventory analysis and optimization with training and professional services. This software solution captures the complexity of the Indian supply chains and is scalable to model the details of AFL’s large clients.

“The new platform will ensure easy-to-use decision support solution for managing global supply chains. It will serve to rationalize global distribution and manufacturing networks to help identify the most cost-efficient supply chain network. Inventory savings between 15 to 35 percent are typical”, said Vivek S Rawat, Country Manager – Websphere – Software Group, IBM India/South Asia.

Ravinder Bajaj, Head – Solutions and SCM Strategy at AFL’s Logistics Division said,” The combination of AFL’s domain expertise in logistics and iLOG’s design and modelling capabilities, have helped us unlock significant value in our clients’ supply chain metrics.”

IBM iLOG Supply Chain Management Applications are optimization-based decision support solutions designed to complement and enhance existing investments in enterprise resource planning (ERP) and advanced planning and scheduling (APS) solutions. IBM claims that these applications help companies make better decisions faster, addressing global supply chain design and sourcing strategies, transportation planning, and the optimal flow and placement of inventory across the end-to-end supply chain.
