Google Introduces Search via SMS

Google has recently introduced its SMS service called the SMS Search. By sending an SMS with designated keywords to the number 9773300000 users can get access to a range of services via SMS which include ATM locations, booking a cab or getting the latest cricket match scores.

The service has features which include Cricket Scores where in the subscriber can send an SMS with the keyword “cricket” or even “cri” and the service will send an SMS with the latest scores. Users wanting to know stock quotes can send the “company name quote” as an SMS while those wanting the latest news can send “news” as an SMS.

The service also has a feature which will allow users to search for local businesses. For example the user can send an SMS “restaurants indira nagar Bangalore” and have the list of restaurants in that area sent to him via the SMS service. This service will be available across 34 cities in the country which will include Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Chennai, Delhi and others.

With the service users can currently get information on Indian Railways with regards to PNR status, train availability, timings and routes. Users can also get updates on flight timings, movie show times, weather, horoscope and even word definitions, weight conversions and currency conversions.

The service is currently available on both GSM and CDMA networks. Normal SMS rates apply according to the service package provided by the service provider.
