Alfresco Upgrades ECM Platform

Alfresco Software has upgraded its enterprise content management platform, adding collaboration features that simplify the process of capturing and sharing information across teams of employees.

The share component of Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.0 includes a document library that features bulk content upload capability, thumbnails, a flash document viewer, meta-data, tags, and an RSS feed that make it easier for employees to use a content management tool, the company said.

In addition, the software includes a search engine for finding people and experts within an organization, the ability to create teams, activity feeds that provides updates on what is new or changing in a project, and dashboards that can be customized based on what's important to a project or a person's role.

Other features include the ability to use wikis, blogs and Microsoft Office in content creation and a rapid application development environment that uses lightweight scripting and reusable components.

"Designed to enable simple administration and configuration, Alfresco Share empowers virtual teams to collaborate and share content," John Newton, chief technology officer for Alresco, said in a statement. "Going forward Alfresco Share will become the most productive way for our users to access and develop content for the Alfresco repository."

Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.0 has been generally available since Oct. 31. A download trial of the software is available.
