Pharma - Infrastructure Agenda 2009
In our Infrastructure Agenda 2009 annual survey it was revealed that the key business priorities for 2009 are achieving business technology leadership and business process improvements. The three big challenges faced by the CIO/CTO in this sector are shortage of skills or IT staff, optimizing IT spend and evaluating or selecting new products or technologies. Pharma-Key Business Priorities in 2009

Probably the only vertical wherein CIOs have equally polled both, the fact that they want to achieve business leadership through the means of technology and improve business process in the coming year. Being environment friendly is also on the cards as one of key priorities that would take them ahead of the technology curve..

 

 

Pharma-Key Challenges faced by CIO/CTO
Polling an equal 27% for manpower issues, optimizing IT spend and looking at evaluating new technologies, CIOs in this vertical, will look at balancing these in the year ahead.

 

 

Pharma-CIOs Technology Priorities for 2009
36% of the respondents have chosen ERP and enterprise applications as a key priority which they will be looking at in the next year on a priority basis.
Second to this is BI as this vertical has been one of the early adopters of BI as a tool to drive business.

 

 

Pharma-Percentage Split of 2009 IT Spend
CIOs in this vertical have polled the need to spit the IT spend for the coming year between Network
Infrastructure and Enterprise Applications. Overall, the sector has a very positive outlook towards their IT budgets and will be among the largest spenders in 2009. This is reflected by the fact that 73% of respondents have polled an increase of their IT outlay for 2009, which is in the range of 20% to 40%.

 

Pharma-Implementation Pattern for Key Technologies
CIOs polled have identified that IT infrastructure enhancement is a key technology area since over 45% of them have polled it as a key technology to invest in 2009. Information Security will also be a priority as these companies are likely to implement encryption technologies and ensure enforcement of security policies. Outsourcing of services is likely to see an increase in 2009, with 53% respondents polling for it.

 

 

Pharma-Key Technology Implementation Challenges faced
27% of CIOs polled, are expected to invest in gearing the employees of their organization to accept new technology and solutions. The study also shows respondents polling bandwidth constraints as a key impediment for deploying technology.

 

 

Pharma-Outsourcing Plans for Key Functions
Since outsourcing of services is likely to see an increase in 2009, respondents have polled Applications and Program Management as the key functions that will see a rise in being outsourced. Additional functions such as Asset Management & WAN Management are likely to witness significant outsourcing as well.

 

 

Pharma-Technologies expected to have Highest Impact on Business in next 3 years
Respondents-about 36%-polled have placed Service Oriented Architecture, as one of the technologies expected to have the highest impact on companies operating in this vertical. While SaaS, Wi-Fi, Web 2.0, Cloud Computing and Metro Ethernet have minor supporters, this vertical is expected to be the first to harness the power of Cloud Computing.
