Portals proliferate in a company by way of onboarding employees,
suppliers and customers. Choice is to use commercial portals or
open-source portals. By 2015, Gartner expects at least 25 percent
of new enterprise portal projects in Global 2000 firms to use
open-source portal frameworks.
Open source portal software, with potentially no acquisition cost,
is a great alternative. However, enterprises are staying away from
open source primarily due to three reasons:
- Lack of confidence in opensource software to deploy mission
critical apps. There are concerns related to reliability and
scalability.
- Lack of credible support on open source.
- Relatively longer development cycles due to absence of RAD
tools, documentation and developer resources.
At INTEROP

demonstrate with a live case study of how they have overcome these
challenges by leveraging open source portals and reduced time to
market by using their own portal development kit.
