Red Hat joins hands with Wipro to deliver open source solutions
Both organisations plan to collaborate in building integrated solutions on Red Hat technologies through joint investments in Wipro’s CoE InformationWeek News Network, August 11, 2010
Red Hat has announced that Wipro has become the first Red Hat Premier Partner in India. Both organisations plan to collaborate in building integrated solutions on Red Hat technologies through joint investments in Wipro’s Centre of Excellence in Bangalore. The objective is to build frameworks and platforms which can be readily replicated and customised by architects and developers to create solutions for industry verticals including telecommunications, banking, financial services, insurance, government, defence and utilities industries.

“Wipro has been a Red Hat partner for more than five years and they have developed substantial skill sets across open source technologies,” said Nandu Pradhan, President & Managing Director, Red Hat India.  “With this announcement, Wipro and Red Hat have formed a strategic partnership that will enable Wipro to deliver open source solutions in India.”

The partnership gives customers in India the choice to evaluate, select and use a complete open source solution stack backed by award winning solution and support from Red Hat, with implementation, delivery and support services from Wipro.

“We have seen increased adoption of open source solutions across the enterprise and specifically in the government, telecommunications and insurance industries. Open source solutions are a significant part of the business strategy at Wipro, and we have invested in creating an open source practice, which today has strong skill sets in delivering end to end solutions,” said Achuthan Nair, Vice President and Business Head, Professional Services, Wipro, India, Middle East and Africa. “The partnership with Red Hat is a compelling value proposition for customers who have started to adopt the performance, reliability, scalability, security and superior value available through open source technology.”

The partnership will enable Wipro to better serve customers that are seeking to virtualize their environments, deploy supported open source middleware for their applications, leverage cloud computing, enable SOA within their business processes and migrate from proprietary to an open source environment.

With this collaboration, Wipro will be able to offer cost-efficient, reliable, secure and scalable solutions built around open source platforms, to its customers. Wipro also plans to offer application services; migration and upgrade services, desktop services and enterprise management services to its customers as well as consulting resources to choose solutions that enable optimal performance, improve productivity and time to market and deliver a tangible return on investment.

One of the key projects executed jointly by Wipro and Red Hat has been at the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Wipro has been selected to implement ESIC's Project Panchdeep which is aimed at improving healthcare services to its beneficiaries. The solution from Wipro is a completely on the Open Source Stack and has been deployed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux leveraging the integrated virtualization and clustering. Wipro and Red Hat have partnered together in this key win.
