Dell launches initiative to encourage PC recycling
Dell says customers who want to send their old PC or notebook for free recycling will get a Rs 1000 discount coupon for their purchase of any new Dell PC or notebook InformationWeek News Network, March 05, 2010

While Dell launched its free recycling services for its customers in India in 2006, the company has announced an incentive to give away PCs. All Dell customers who send their old PC or notebook for free recycling will get a Rs 1000 discount coupon for their purchase of any new Dell PC or notebook.

The company has also extended its free recycling for any brand of PC as long as the customer buys a new Dell computer. The customer, however, will not be given a discount coupon for a non-Dell PC.

The company will either refurbish these computers or recycle them in an environment- friendly manner. The refurbished computers will be either sold at a discounted rate or donated to the needy as part of the company’s CSR activities. “It is always better to reuse and refurbish computers rather than recycle them as this increases the overall life of the product,” said Mahesh Bhalla, Executive Director and GM-Consumer, Dell India.

Dell has also launched the ‘Dell Go Green challenge’ to raise awareness and community involvement in green initiatives in India. Users are invited to share photographs, videos and other innovative depictions of key issues, concerns or thoughts on community green technology.

The contest will run for two months, during which the community will vote for their favorite entries. The winning entry will receive a Dell Inspiron 14” laptop, the runner-up will receive a Dell Mini and the second runner-up, a Dell Inspiron Zino.
