The Columbia Asia Group was facing a challenging task in addressing the gap between the demand and supply of radiologists. To address this problem, the firm wanted to build a virtual platform where radiologists could report cases despite being at different physical locations. However, setting up a virtual platform for radiologists (also called TeleRadiology) was difficult due to issues related to the size of files to be transmitted.

Columbia Hospitals partnered with Medsphere Technologies to create a solution that enables a radiologist to log into a local server and access images for local reporting. Today, all the reports are signed ‘digitally’ by doctors. This allows the doctors to report for any hospital from any location.

As the solution is integrated with the Hospital Information System (HIS), it allows radiologists to report more efficiently as they can see their worklist along with all patient details, via a single click. There is no need to shift between films, papers, and HIS for filing reports. Radiologists are also able to collaborate since they can share cases and reports. Hospitals are now able to provide reports to patients in a timely fashion even if the local radiologist is unavailable or on leave.
