Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on how Cloud Computing will change Enterprise IT
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s keynote at IndiMix 2010 was centered on the firm’s next big opportunity – Cloud Computing InformationWeek News Network, May 31, 2010
A recent Zinnov study estimates the global cloud computing market to be over USD 70 billion by 2015. The study also pointed out that India, with its powerful ecosystem of over 1300 independent software vendors (ISVs), 1.4 million developers and  more than 11000 system integrators (SIs and Custom software development organizations),  is ideally poised to address this growing opportunity.

In this emerging market which is said to become a global hub for cloud computing technologies, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, in a keynote at IndiMix 2010, highlighted the impact that the cloud will create.

Here are some excerpts from his keynote:
  • The cloud is the direction in which we are evolving every product of ours – Office, Windows Server, SQL Server and SharePoint
  •  The cloud is the fusion of the best of the Internet with the best of the Enterprise Data Center with the best of the PC, with the best of the phone and the TV. Today, these different entities are loosely linked through the browser. We are trying to make these links stronger
  • The cloud creates new opportunities and responsibilities. As an application developer, you can distribute and deploy globally in multiple locations with full latency, and equipped with ready billing and commercial infrastructure. But the cloud also creates a new set of responsibilities. These responsibilities include privacy, security and reliability
  •  The cloud will change the way you look at hardware. Today, you write applications designed for servers keeping in mind the deployment environment. In the cloud era, you will write applications that are designed to scale and have the capability to be deployed immediately. The cloud will make hardware that does not look like a server, but a data center that comes in a box and has processors, storage and networking integrated with each other.
