D-Link DIR-600 Wireless Router

D-Link’s new wireless router DIR-600, based on the draft 802.11n technology, promises better wireless network performance over standard 802.11g routers especially when it comes to sharing a broadband Internet connection with multiple computers over a secure wireless network.

The company says DIR-600 will enable faster file transfers and greater network coverage, by leveraging on the strengths of the draft 802.11n technology. The router also works with existing 802.11g wireless devices. Security features include support for WPA and WPA2 to ensure the availability of an optimum level of encryption regardless of the client device. The DIR-600 also includes dual active firewalls (SPI and NAT) which can prevent Internet-based attacks, and a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) with which users can set up and activate network security functions with the push of a button.

The router has various energy-saving features. While it can budget different power output for Ethernet cables of different lengths, the router can also automatically power down ports which have no active links. The DIR-600 also includes a wireless LAN scheduling feature which can shut down the network when not in use. Powered by an Energy Star compliant power adapter, the router promises reduced energy consumption.
The D-Link DIR-600 comes with a three-year warranty, at a price of Rs 2,700.

Riverbed Steelhead Mobile

Riverbed Technology has introduced additions to its Steelhead Mobile solution which will allow organizations to deploy a cost-effective and scalable mobile WAN optimization solution. Additions to the offering include the Steelhead Mobile Controller-Virtual Edition (SMC-VE), increased capacity for the SMC appliance, and additional application-level latency optimization for a Steelhead Mobile. The new SMC-VE is a virtual package deployed on the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP), a virtualized platform that resides on the Steelhead appliance.

The solution can allow customers to run up to five additional services and applications in a protected partition on the Steelhead appliance. By running SMC-VE within the RSP, the appliance allows enterprises to obtain all the benefits of Steelhead Mobile while eliminating the need to purchase additional hardware. Enterprises can purchase as few as 10 initial Steelhead Mobile licenses, up to a total capacity of 100 licenses, and manage these concurrent licenses with the SMC-VE running within the RSP.

The increase in the total license capacity of the appliance-based SMC for large enterprises now enables the SMC to manage from 2,000 up to a total of 4,000 licenses with no additional hardware requirements. The appliance now enables accelerated Lotus Notes support for mobile users. This capability promises to improve the speed at which mobile employees can access large e-mail attachments and manage calendar invites across dispersed geographical locations, by up to 18 times.

Epson EB-825 Wireless Multimedia Projector

Epson’s new EB-825 wireless multimedia projector promises to be an easy-to-use, cost-effective and energy-efficient multimedia viewing solution.

The EB-825 can wirelessly project images and videos from computers connected in a wireless network. Alternatively, with its inbuilt USB port, it can project images and videos stored on a flash drive or through a wired USB connection. With wireless connectivity, the projector’s settings can be remotely configured, when it is placed at locations which are not readily accessible—such as on walls or ceiling mountings.

The projector’s light source comes from the company’s flagship Epson-Twin Optimized Reflection Lamp (E-TORL) which can achieve an image which is 20 percent brighter compared to a conventional projector lamp having the same power input. It also significantly reduces the waste heat that results from light lost in ordinary lamp designs. The reduction in heat not only promises a lamp lifespan of 6,000 hours—which is 50 percent longer than the company’s previous projector lamp design—but also promises cost savings on both power consumption and lamp replacements.

It also features a 3-chip, solid-state 3LCD optical engine based on Epson’s 3LCD technology and has a native resolution of 1024 x 768, along with a brightness rating of 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1 which promises sharper and clearer projections. A zoom range of 1.6 x enables the projector to achieve a large screen size with a shorter throw distance, cutting down on the space wasted between the projector and the screen.

The EB-825 projector also features a ‘whiteboard and blackboard mode’ that adjusts an image to suit the background on which it is projected, for better viewing. It also supports six other color modes— Dynamic, Presentation, Theatre, sRGV, Sports, and Photo—to display different content.

The projector features convenient access panels that allow users to clean or change its air filter or lamp easily. It also sports a 10-watt integrated speaker that can play sounds from videos or presentations, saving users the hassle of connecting an extra set of speakers. The EB-825 is currently available at a price of Rs 77,800.

Kingston DataTraveler 300

Kingston Technologies recently unveiled its new 256 GB USB flash drive, DataTraveler 300, which is designed for use by customers who require large portable storage. These include netbook users who require additional storage capacity, business consumers who work with large databases, and designers who work with large design files.

With data transfer rates of up to 20 MB per second and storage capacity of 256 GB, the plug-and-play USB flash drive promises a high performance, high capacity portable storage solution. Features include the company’s flagship Password Traveler security software which allows the user to prevent unauthorized access and protect content using passwords. This feature does not require any administrator rights but currently runs on only the Windows platform.

The flash drive also supports Windows ReadyBoost, a feature available on Windows Vista which allows a USB flash drive to be used as an additional memory cache, eliminating the need to add actual physical memory during sudden spikes in memory demands.
Available with a five-year warranty, the DataTraveler 300 is priced at Rs 42,999.
