Quantum Introduces Storagecare Vision
NWC News Network, August 21, 2007

Quantum Corp, the leading global specialist in backup, recovery and archive, today announced StorageCare Vision, extending its line of intelligent data management solutions. StorageCare Vision works together with Quantum’s iLayer tape automation system management and StorageCare Guardian backup system remote monitoring application to automate the management of a customer’s entire data protection environment, including disk and tape systems, through a single user interface.

For IT departments, the new tool offers increased data availability and uptime by automating and centralizing status monitoring, capacity utilization reporting, alerting and diagnostics across a user’s global backup infrastructure.

“According to TheInfoPro's Wave 9 Storage Study, Fortune 1000 organizations name managing complexity as a key storage pain point, particularly in relation to integration and responsive reporting issues,” said Robert Stevenson, managing director of storage research for TheInfoPro. “Most of these issues stem from the fact that these enterprises work with an average of eight separate vendors to fulfill their storage needs and they have to ensure that each technology integrates seamlessly with the others − a very tedious and time consuming task. End users are looking for more comprehensive solutions, such as Quantum's StorageCare Vision, which allows an end user to monitor their Quantum systems, SAN switches and backup applications from one screen and help optimize management of the entire heterogeneous data protection environment.”

Quantum’s StorageCare Vision enables customers to more effectively manage their data protection infrastructure across distributed environments, especially in remote or branch offices where data protection processes and IT support is limited. Quantum disk backup systems and automated tape libraries can be linked via a single, global management console to allow centralized visibility across tiers of backup, restore, archive and disaster recovery processes.

StorageCare Vision is available now through Quantum and its distribution partners. It runs on Windows 2000/2003 Server and supports Solaris, Linux, AIX and HPUX operating systems and several software packages, such as EMC Legato NetWorker, Symantec Veritas NetBackup and Backup Exec, and Tivoli Storage Manager. Supported systems include Quantum’s DXi-Series disk backup and replication family featuring data de-duplication, DX-Series disk-based backup systems and appliances, Scalar iPlatform tape libraries, and PX-Series tape libraries, in addition to switches from Cisco, Brocade and McData.
